Lesson 2: Why you don´t Achieve your Goals Successfully (and what to do about it)

Top 5 Reasons why you are NOT Achieving your Goals Successfully and What to do about it

Introduction to Authentic Goal Setting Free Course

Listen to Lesson 2:

Or Read Lesson 1 Summary:

1. Your goals are not congruent with your Values nor your True Goals

It is possible that your goals are filled with other people´s values and what you think you should achieve rather than what your soul is calling you to do.

It is possible that your goals are filled with other people´s values and what you think you should achieve rather than what your soul is calling you to do.

Goals aligned with your highest values and purpose are easier to achieve because they resonate with your true authentic self, and the core of your being - the who you really are at the core. It´s the difference between swimming against the current and swimming with the current.

What to do about it:

Aligning goals with your highest values and true authentic self propels you forward not only to easily achieve them but they also leave you feeling more fulfilled, whole and complete - because they are in alignment. Goals that are not aligned, encounter more resistance, procrastination, inconsistency and are overall goals harder to achieve, or goals that you will drop half way.

2. Your Goals are not Connected to Anything (+ Video Below)

This is a strategy that is a little bit more advanced but I am going to try to simplify it and explain it to you in easy terms. One of the nicest strategies for achieving goals is by connecting goals to one another.

Say for example that you want to be a TV presenter. You have this as part of your career goals. Now you also have as part of your Body goals to lose weight.

You need to first get images of your ideal TV presenter (who you aspire to be like). So let´s say you would get images of Oprah, of Giuliana Ransic, of Ellen Degeneres etc. And then from those images, for the purpose of this exercise, you would choose the one that most looks like how you would ideally like to look physically as a TV presenter. So if you want to be skinny, you would pick Giuliana Ransic.

Now you have to connect your goal of losing weight to the goal of being a TV presenter.

The TV presenter goal will push you to look the part of a TV Presenter, which you have chosen Giulianna Ransic for the physical aspect of that goal. Now to get to Giulianna Ransic, you have to diet and workout, which in turn will help you to achieve your body goal of losing weight and staying toned. So they are two separate goals but they reinforce one another and help motivate you.

If your goals are not connected to one another they may lack the energy necessary for you to achieve them. So whenever you can, always connect goals to each other, as well as connect main goals to sub-goals.

You can watch a video below here, where I explain this strategy in more detail (you will see at the bottom it says "Awakened Goals" - that´s because this course was called that in the past, when this video was recorded. A year or two after that I renamed it Purpose Goals. But the info in the video below still applies, and is still valid today, take a look:

3. You Procrastinate and Don´t Take Enough Action

Procrastination is one of the biggest reasons why people don´t reach their goals. So you know exactly what you want, but you are just not doing it and you are not taking enough action. You keep on postponing the activities that will take you closer to your goals, and you make time for things that are completely unrelated to your goals.

So, whenever you are about to do something or say yes to something, I want you to always ask yourself this question:

“How will this help me achieve my goals?”

Another question to ask is

“To which goal is this activity related to?”

I want you to really get into the habit of connecting your actions and activities to your goals.

The more you ask yourself these questions, the more aware you will become about how you are spending your time and how much are you actually investing in achieving your goals.

Your goals should not be on paper just as a once off exercise, you need also an actual plan or road map to follow through and take action in order to achieve your goals.

What to do about it:

No matter what you feel like, I want you to commit to your goals and push through beyond what you feel like. In other words, take action.

Mel Robbins, author of the 5 Second Rule, tells it straight up:

“In order to change, in order to build a business, in order to be the best parent, in order to be the best spouse–in order to do all those things that you know you want to do with your life–you are going to have to do things that are difficult, uncertain, or scary.

Which sets up this problem for all of us:

YOU ARE NEVER EVER GOING TO FEEL LIKE IT!"

This means, no matter what you feel like, take action anyways.

I.e. I don´t feel like going to the gym and rather cuddle up in the morning. But when my driver arrives at 7am, I stop thinking about what I really feel like doing (which is sleep) and I jump on auto-pilot mode by putting on my gym clothes and getting in the car. When I get there I just do the work no matter what I feel like.

The bottom line is this: procrastination will always sabotage your goals and the achievement of your dreams. To combat that, I want you to take this one small step - which is to take action toward your goals, no matter what you feel like in the day.

Just do it.

4. You don´t Have a Support System in Place

If you look at great accomplishments in life, they were hardly ever achieved by one single person alone. The pyramids were not built in one day and by a single individual. Presidents don´t rule alone, they have a team around and advisors.

Freediving Champion Tanya Streeter, when describing how she became a champion and set multiple world records she says one of the things she did in order to achieve her goal, was to assemble a winning team, the very best she could get.

At Purpose Goals Academy you get an accountability partner and become part of a winning and supportive community that is there to push you to achieve your goals and grow past your limits.

In addition to this you should have a support community or team for each area of your life and goal you set. For example, for your body, have a personal trainer or a gym buddy. For business goals, join coaching, masterminds and other types of business training, and so on. Always have a support system in each area of your life to ensure you don´t slack and follow through and achieve your goals. After all, failure is not an option!

5. Setting Goals helps you Create your Dream Life

Have you ever set goals and put them in a drawer or in a book or somewhere on your computer and never looked at them again or failed to look at them often enough?

When you set goals and save them somewhere you don´t look often enough, you tend to forget your goals and automatically veer towards your auto-pilot mode which is not working towards achieving those goals, but it is still busy.

What to do about it:

If you want to achieve your goals, make sure you have a system that keeps your goals visible at all times and that get you to take action on those on a daily basis. Also when you look at your goals often, it sends a subconscious message to your brain, and gets your brain to chase after and attract the achievement of those goals. This is a simple yet very effective tip - always look at your goals - on daily basis if possible.

6. You hold Subconscious Limiting Beliefs that are contradictory to what you want to Achieve

Limiting beliefs act as a subconscious tape that plays in the background of our minds at all times, and they affect our choices, our behaviour and also the things that we achieve or fail to achieve in life.

Many of our subconscious beliefs come from early childhood messages, our own social conditioning, as well as past experiences and the interpretation and internalisation of those.

Everything you want to achieve in life, first starts with your mind. You cannot get anything you subconsciously or consciously believe you are incapable of receiving or undeserving of receiving.

For example, if you want more money but you subconsciously believe that money is the root of all evil, and that with money comes great responsibility (and you don´t want more responsibility), and that people "like you" could never get rich, then you can subconsciously repel the very thing you want to attract.

What to do about it:

One of the ways in which we can achieve our goals is by eliminating subconscious limiting beliefs and by elevating our deserve level. We then need to reprogram our minds, to achieve the very things we want to achieve but are failing to do so. You will learn more about this in later lessons in this course.

There are tons more reasons why may not be achieving our goals, that we cannot cover in this time that we have together here today. However the most important thing is to identify your own specific, bottlenecks. Because it is different for each person.

Thus, I want you to ask yourself: Why do you specifically feel you are not achieving your goals?

You can comment below and let me know, I´d love to help you set and achieve your goals, and help you overcome whatever obstacles are in your way.

This is the end of our lesson today, but don´t go away so easily :- ) In Lesson 4 we are going to learn How to Uncover and Eliminate those Limiting Beliefs that are Sabotaging your Success.

This is beyond important, because for as long as you have unidentified limiting beliefs, it doesn´t matter what goals you set for yourself, you will always be setting yourself up for failure without even knowing.

So you want to clear those limiting beliefs, so that you can become limitless in your creations and manifestations.

Look forward to seeing you tomorrow.

P.S. Tomorrow´s topic is on Purpose, True Authentic Self, and Goals - super crucial as well! After tomorrow is Limiting Beliefs :)
